Beaches

Local beaches are abundant within a short drive of The Canfield House. Here are a few of the local favorites:

  • Capt. Langland Park “The Turnaround,” - located at the end of Portage Point Dr., is a local favorite to watch the sunset or enjoy Lake Michigan.

  • Manistee 5th Ave. Beach - Considered to be one of Manistee’s most beautiful beaches, this great spot is ideal for those looking to walk the attractive North Pier. The Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse is also located off of the north pier. The recently reconstructed bathhouse features a great food vendor and shower facility. You will also find a great playground for the kids and tennis courts for mom and dad.

  • Sleeping Bear Dunes - A short 45-minute drive to one of the most beautiful places in the United States (Good Morning America)

Whether it is golfing in the summer or skiing in the winter, here are a few of our guests’ favorites:

Hiking/Biking

With an abundance of natural beauty in the area, here are a few of our favorite places to visit and things to do:

  • Inspiration Point - This Lake Michigan overlook just off of M22 in Arcadia is a must-see

  • Arcadia Marsh Trail (Arcadia) - .75 miles

  • Portage Point Woods Preserve (Onekama) - As you hike the looped trail, watch and listen for a variety of animal species, from songbirds and raptors to reptiles and amphibians

  • North Point Park (Onekama) - This land was designated as “North Point Park” in 2002 by the Township Board and includes 3 different trails on 60+ acres.
